About
Cosmos for Humanity
Cosmos for Humanity is an organization committed to responsible and sustainable space exploration. At a time when space is becoming a major strategic and economic issue, we advocate for governance that preserves this common heritage by promoting ethical and sustainable practices. Through our actions, we raise awareness, provide support and influence decisions so that humanity can continue to explore the cosmos without compromising its future.
The Origin of Our Commitment
Founded in 2021 by Claire Elss and David Many, Cosmos for Humanity was born out of a strong conviction: space is a common good that must be explored and used responsibly, in the spirit of the Aarhus Convention, which promotes access to information, public participation and access to justice in environmental matters.

Our commitment and unique approach have earned us recognition as the only organization in the world of general interest for its mission in favor of terrestrial and spatial sustainability. This recognition reinforces our determination to develop the practices and policies that govern space exploration and use.

In this context, we were incubated for two years by the CNES, where we worked on developing the criteria for the space sustainability label. This label is an essential tool for guiding stakeholders in the sector towards more responsible practices and placing sustainability at the heart of space policies.

From the outset, our mission has been clear: to raise awareness, provide support and advocate for the sustainable governance of the cosmos. By collaborating with institutions, scientists and industrialists, we work to preserve the orbital environment while encouraging innovation. Because the future of humanity is inextricably linked to space, we defend a vision where progress and responsibility go hand in hand.

Join us in building a sustainable and ethical space future.
Advocacy for a Sustainable Space
At Cosmos for Humanity, we are actively committed to making space sustainability a pillar of major international policy. As a member of the United Nations Global Compact and the European Commission's Diversi network, we are working to fully include the responsible management of space in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in the same way as the preservation of our terrestrial environment.
Convinced that the future of humanity depends on the preservation of the orbit and space resources, we promote this vision to international institutions, European and national parliamentary assemblies, as well as to the UN. In collaboration with decision-makers, experts and committed stakeholders, we contribute to the emergence of ambitious governance frameworks for the ethical, responsible and sustainable use of space, today and for future generations.
